Joan Cheney, 92, formerly of South Charleston, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Forest Glen Health Campus. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years; Betty (Riley) Roberts, two children; Donald E. Roberts and Darlene (Gary) Benning Faryman, six grandchildren; Matt (Lindsey), Jeff (Chelsea), Kyle (Lauren), Kassidy, Zach (Kathryn) and Cole, five great grandchildren; Evan, Mackenzie, Will, Chase and Avah and several nieces and nephews. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and had been employed at Deer and Cals as an HVAC specialist. He was born October 2, 1951 in Carlisle, OH, the son of the late Clayton Bray and Shirley Howell. Survivors include five children, Sandra Nickels, Robert Nickels, Jr., Cindy Nickels, Ronnie Nickels, and Timmy Nickels, all of Springfield; one granddaughter, Nikki Nickels; several great- grandchildren; sister, Virginia of Washington Court House; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a generous supporter of U.S. Veterans and was fond of gardening. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Irene Gafvert and Roger Wood. At Mr. Deckers request, there will be no services. She was born February 4, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Verna Alberta (Cooper) Cunningham. He was the owner of Casey Construction and had been employed at Werner Trucking. She was preceded in death by a son; Chad Ferguson, a sister; Dawn Banks, a brother; Dennis Jenkins and her parents.
